LS 3- Groups of organisms show evidence of change over time (structures, behaviors and biochemistry)
This unit will focus on evolution and its importance to scientific processes. Evolution is a critical component of biology and is an essential theory for students to comprehend. This unit will introduce students to evolution starting with the fossil record and other supporting evidence of evolution. The lessons will cover evolutionary processes, application, mechanisms and the ideas of various scientists. The unit will then go into more detailed aspects of evolution incorporating ideas of natural selection, adaption, speciation and limitations.
We will be using interactive models and simulations in the classroom. The students will study how genetics influence evolution which will lead them into the following unit on genetics. The lessons in this unit utilize methods such as powerpoint presentations, whole-class activities, small group work, guided note taking, individually designed assignments, writing assignments and using technological resources. When I get a CT for high school, I will discuss more with them topics covered in the evolution unit and where it fits into the curriculum.
